Grand Designs Part 1

Me and my Mother have bought a greenhouse. To save money we got a flat pack one also instead of glass, it has plastic. Classy. So we unpacked it and found the instructions which are so complicated we might as well be building the Beijing Olympic arena.
We cleared a space for the foundations which was already there which used to be for our shed. That rotted and got taken over by rats.
We had to clear off what was on the foundations. Allot of unused pots.
Then the stupidest tables in the world. Pure slate must be the heaviest things i have ever lifted in my life.
The first part of the structure only took about three hours and i am not exaggerating.
We got much further on with the first half of the structure.
There is the finished structure. I extremely happy to get this far especially because it only took 8 hours. We are now waiting for a non windy day to put the plastic on, because they might all blow away.

After the snow

So there has been a lot of frost and snow which hasn't given me much to do.
Apart from spending a fortune on the Sarah raven site, that's where i bought all my seeds. She does add a nice touch because they arrive in purple tissue paper and comes with planting tips sheet.
I have also planted up more garlic which seem to be doing well. They will be going in the soil as soon as i have put more soil on it and manure. The snow has only just melted on my veg patch. Which is a bad sign because it shows it doesn't get enough sun because it was the last place to melt in the garden.
More joy in the garden my rhubarb is growing, which is a relief because i thought i had planted it upside down.
I also made a strawberry bed using the propagated strawberries from last year.
I have protected them with straw and a netted poly tunnel, for a number of reasons, there still may be frost, but i also have a big pest in the garden, its small and brown and doesn't care what he stands on or digs up.
The pest is called Lucas. The chicken wire is there to protect my rhubarb.

Bird Stories

This is the bird stand my mother got my father for Christmas and it has been very successfully firstly because he actually liked it and secondly it gets loads of birds coming to it and no squirrels. I was trying to take a photo of the birds eating from it because there was ten of them on it at the time, i scared a few away by coming to the window.

But then this huge fat pigeon scared them all away. Just not on.
Lucas likes to watch the birds, he is in charge of making sure its just birds and not squirrels starts to shake if there is a squirrel.
With this frost the water freezes up so quickly i put new water out every morning and it is frozen within an hour so i started to put warm water out to give the brid's a better chance of getting some water.

Something else that has frozen is the pond, which Lucas demonstrates in this photo. He found that out himself i didn't put him on there. He has mastered his fear now because he fell in the pond as a puppy and has always been very cautious of it.

I love the green which has frosted edges.

I think the bamboo looks stunning.

Hello Handsome

I have invested in a mini greenhouse, its for my seedlings also its until i win a greenhouse. Its from Home Base 29.99 and i think its really good. It was very easy to put up until you have to put the cover on and you have to make sure you have really banged the poles in otherwise they won't fit on i had several melt downs trying to pull it over. I have started off my garlic just a few, and i read in "grow your own" magazine that you can set them off in pots first, i did this because i couldn't even get my fork in the ground it was so frozen.
